Project Summary

The CO2CRC Otway Project is an Australian pilot scale Carbon Storage project. This project is for the site appraisal, plume modelling and operational planning of the Otway Stage 3 Project, Execute and Operate phase.

It comprises the following technical and preparatory sub-projects. Characterisation and modelling prior to the drilling of an appraisal well (CRC-3), with the subsequent well design and injection & monitoring planning for this well supported by the science case for the operational implementation. The project also completed several science-based assessments including a Geochemical Barrier Concept and Geomechanical characterisation of faults at the Otway and design of a down hole trial to predict fault properties and behaviour. The opportunity of assessing the value-added Digital core analysis and upscaling would bring compared to conventional core analysis. Finally, it included the development of the project execution plan for Otway Stage.
